Save your TS3 identity!

The first thing you should do when planning on using my TeamSpeak server for a longer period of time is backing up your TS identity. It's the one thing that, well, identifies you within the TeamSpeak network. Everything is tied to this identity: Your levels, channel access, permissions. Reinstalling your operating system or properly uninstalling TS will cause loss of the files in question. If you lose your TS identity you lose everything on my and other servers. And there is no way of getting it back if you don't know the server admin personally. And even then possibilities are limited.

There are two options to prevent losing TS identities:

You can create a MyTeamSpeak account for free here and let it save/synchronize your identities. One major advantage is that you can easily share your identities between all your different devices supporting TS3. No more wondering why you'd have less permissions when connecting with your phone rather than your PC/Mac/whatever.

The other method involves some manual work. You can backup your identity locally via the integrated wizard.

1) First, open the identity dialog by navigating to Settings => Identities or pressing CTRL + i (for Identities).

2) Most users will find that they only have one identity which also happens to be the default identity. To start backing it up, click the export button.

3) Nobody reasonable will ever ask you for the resulting *.ini file and you should protect it from illegal access. It contains all information needed to take over all your permissions on all TeamSpeak 3 servers. You should really mind that warning.

4) It would be a good idea to save it somewhere... safe. Maybe an external hard drive or a USB stick. I strongly advise against saving it to your operating system hard drive since it will just be gone should you happen to reinstall your system (a.k.a. format the system drive).

My hard drive/operating system died, I lost my levels and/or channels. How do I get them back?

If you backed up your TS identity in the past, just import it back into your new TS3 installation and set it as default or select it in the favorite's drop down box.

However if you did not back up your identity, your only chance will be getting access to this identity somehow. If you used a mechanical hard drive, chances are you can still access some portions of the data on this drive. Maybe you get lucky.

TS stores it's user data in %appdata%\TS3Client in Windows and I'd bet something like $HOME/.ts3 in Unix-like systems. You might need to read up on the topic and/or get the help of some IT person whose name is not annih.

How can I get rid of pesky people?

There is an option to ignore specific people. Just open the context menu of the client in question (right-click) and click Add as blocked. Now this user will be unable to whisper and poke you.

If you are channel admin or operator you can kick clients out of your channel. If they are stubborn and come back, the bot detects users getting channel kicked multiple times and handles them appropriately i.e. they get a warning server kick first and if they still don't get the message, they're automatically banned.

Another option would be protecting your channel with a password. That way only people you explicitly tell the password can enter.

Attributes of gaming channels where you get opped by the bot will be reset once empty again. So no worries, just change around whatever you like.
